Fabio Virgili graduated in Biology from the University of Rome with first class honours, and completed his Ph.D. on “Cellular and tissue pathology” at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy.

He has been visiting scientist at the Rowett Research Institute of Aberdeen (UK), at the Department of Pathology of the University of Modena (Italy), at the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology of the University of California, Berkeley (USA), and at the “Plant for Human Health Institute” of the North Carolina State University (USA).

He is Senior scientist at the Council for agricultural research and economics in the Research Centre for Food and Nutrition (CREA-AN).

He was appointed as Professor of Biochemistry in the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Roma-Tre, in Rome and participates to the board of teachers of different Master and Ph.D. courses held by several Italian Universities.

His research deals with the effect of molecules of nutritional interest on transcriptional control of gene expression and on the effect of the presence of specific genetic variants and epigenetic modification in the risk of degenerative diseases having a nutritional component.

Fabio Virgili has coordinated several research granted by the Italian Ministry of Research, the Italian Ministry for Agricultural and Nutritional Policies and the EU.
